WhatsApp and the Future of Pastoral Connection

With almost three billion users globally, WhatsApp has become one of the most popular digital spaces where relationships are formed and maintained. But what happens when that space is intentionally used for ministry? Drawing on practical theology and lived experience, we will unpack six key themes which emerged from the study: safety, care, growth, relevance, convenience, and equality. Participants will learn how group chats can nurture spiritual formation, foster meaningful community, and serve as a valuable tool for authentic pastoral care, particularly among digital natives. The session will also explore the theological implications of digital presence and leadership, offering practical insights on how church leaders and digital evangelists can engage effectively and ethically through group messaging platforms.

Pastor Pavle Trajkovski was born to a Macedonian family in Serbia and grew up between the two countries. As the son of a pastor, he was immersed in ministry from an early age. He studies psychology, culture, and media, as well as conflict studies. He has completed an MA in Theology at Newbold College, where he researched the role of group chats in pastoral care. He serves as youth pastor at Newbold Church in Berkshire. Pastor Pavle is married to Rebeto, and they have a daughter, Isidora Anastasia, and a cat, Leona Josephine. He finds inspiration in music, the sea, and tall trees and is passionate about justice.
